Are not the solar systems different "instances" you have to load when moving between them. They are completely independent of each other. In fact I think busy solar systems have there own server.
What distinguishes an instantce from a zone is the ability to have other players come into it. if someone is in a system, they do not have exclusive access to it. When you're in a station you have exclusive access to your stuff.

Let's say star systems (not solar). And I think you could argue that they are zones. Or open instances.
oh zones for sure - most of em spawn mobs or sites and anyone can go and take em out first come first served.
